After a delay of two years due to COVID and Australia’s closed borders it was both an honour and thrill to finally have the privilege of judging such a wonderful entry of Dandies, here in the UK. I had a truly fabulous day and would like to thank the Club and my Stewards for making it such a smooth running and pleasurable experience. Having come to the UK to see Dandies on a fairly regular basis for the last 25 years, I was delighted to see that these days the vast majority of Dandies entered moved out well and very few were tummy tappers; most too were of excellent length and outline.

The depth and quality particularly in bitches gave me great confidence that the standard of Dandies in this country is hopefully set only to improve in coming years. While the overall presentation of the dogs shown to me was excellent, showing the correct Dandie outline to advantage, I was concerned to see a number exhibited in extremely short coats and alarmingly there was a decided lack of undercoat present in many. Undercoat is an extremely important element of a Dandies’ jacket which should be both crisp and linty, the undercoat critical to the creation of a pencilled coat that is both warm and weatherproof.

I was also concerned to see light eyes and high tail sets creeping in and would encourage breeders to be mindful of this when selecting what is bred from and to. Once these characteristics take a hold they can be very difficult to eradicate in the breed. A high tail set can really detract from the hallmark graceful curves of a correct topline and weaselly body, while a light eye can completely change a Dandies’ wise and intelligent expression and instead give it a rather hard bitten sharp look.

Overall I was delighted with my place winners and there were a number of very promising youngsters who’s development I shall follow with interest.

Finally without exhibitors there is no show, so a heartfelt thanks to all the exhibitors that entered under me. It was a privilege to judge each and every dogs. It was lovely a day that I shall always remember with fondness. Thank you.

Minor Puppy Dog	1st: Drake & Kurg's Etsill Mykillkvi with Tollcross Pleasing pepper puppy. Good topline, well proportioned head and well presented. At this age a little wide in front, though, I expect with maturity this will improve. Tail set could be better. BPD.
Junior Dog	1st: Tinsley's Cloverwood Black Jack Lovely dark pepper dog. Good length and outline, correct coat - undercoat evident, would prefer a slightly darker eye.
	2nd: Karlsen's Dariant Gladiolus at Karezig Pepper dog with lovely length. Sound moving, very balanced. A little out of coat on the day.
	3rd: Hailwood & Flores Padron's Cofgodas Golden Pippin
Graduate Dog	1st: Sharman's The Norman Conqueror Confident mustard dog. Up to size, a little out of coat, good length and topline though tail set could be better. Super temperament.
Postgraduate Dog	1st: Rayner's Reidswire Border Battlecry to Rubegud Nice pepper dog. Good coat, a little wide in front, lovely outline, moved well.
	2nd: Simpson's Dandiroyal Dream Catcher Pleasing pepper dog. Good length, quality coat, would have preferred more forechest, and lacks angulation fore and aft.
Limit Dog	1st: Poole's Hawkesmill Merlon Masculine mustard dog of good length. Well presented coat, moved a little wide coming at you and a little close behind, would have preferred more angulation.
	2nd: Davies's Dandie Dream Call Me Winner Mustard dog, good length and coat. Moved soundly, tail set and carriage detracted from the overall outline.
	3rd: Jacka-Slater's Partoncourt Song In Heaven
Open Dog	1st: Webber's Lilyphanie Great Showman Mustard dog, rather heavy shoulders. Would have liked more forechest. Well handled, pleasing head.
Champion Dog	1st: Milton & Kurg's Ch. Barton Dandies Charles Darnay Well presented masculine mustard dog. Pleasing head and lovely dark eye, confident mover, good outline, carried his tail like a stud dog. DCC.
	2nd: Butcher's Ch. Mishahda Mischief Managed Pleasing mustard dog. Well presented though disappointingly lacking undercoat today. Prefer a darker eye, head not quite as strong as 1. Moved very soundly, outline very pleasing. RCC.
	3rd: Booth's Ch. Borderstone Kingman for Lannia
	Res: France's Ch./Int Ch. Back To My Roots at Luna Caprese with Torbrae
Veteran Dog	1st: Booth's Ch. Borderstone Kingman for Lannia Well made pepper dog. Well presented in good coat - undercoat pleasingly evident. A little past his prime, but a quality dog enjoying his day. Very worthy.
Minor Puppy Bitch	1st: Kurg's Etsill Hannabreck Well presented mustard bitch. Very pleasing outline, good length, moved well, a lower tail set would complete the picture. BPB BPIS.
	2nd: Renton's Etsill Hesta Good length, lovely dark eye, pleasing head. Gave her handler a hard time today!
	3rd: Hailwood & Flores Padron's Redgreet Holly Berry
	Res: Atkinson's Coupe D'Hebe at Hullpride
Puppy Bitch	1st: Allenby & Karlsen's Diddimont Andante at Karezig Feminine mustard puppy. Well balanced, moved well, lovely dark eye, pleasing tail car- riage. Head still a little immature.
	2nd: Lloyd-Warrington's Diddimont Honey Honey Mustard, correct outline. Would have liked more angulation, lovely dark eye. Coat needed a little more work.
	3rd: Atkinson's Coupe D'Hebe at Hullpride
	Res: Hailwood & Flores Padron's Redgreet Holly Berry
Junior Bitch	1st: Bell's Cofgodas Beurre D'Avalon Balanced mustard bitch. Well made front, plenty of forechest, pleasingly feminine head with lovely dark eye.

Graduate Bitch	1st: Bell's Reidswire Lady Gaye Quality pepper bitch, very well presented correct coat. Beautiful front assembly, pleasing head and expression. Would have liked tail set a little lower. Will be interesting to see how she develops, very promising.
	2nd: Fry's Mishahda Pearl's A Singer Substantial mustard bitch. Good outline, pleasing head, moved soundly. Didn’t give her all on the move.

	2nd: Cundall's Diddimont Bella Trix of Bleaklee Another quality bitch. Mustard, pretty head, lovely length and outline, forechest not as well developed as 1.

	2nd: Allenby's Ch. Diddimont Luna Wuffgood Pleasing feminine mustard bitch. Lovely outline, moved a little close behind.
	3rd: France's Ch. Miss Sophie di Luna Caprese at Torbrae

Veteran Bitch	1st: Milton's Ch. Hawkesmill Jenny for Wilmit Mature pepper bitch. Of excellent quality, beautiful length and outline. Well presented, balanced, sound and free moving. Lovely to see a correctly set tail. RCC BVIS.
	2nd: Harcourt-Morris's Dainty Dandies Royal Dutch Emma for Lenacourt Mustard bitch. Moved soundly, correct outline, pleasing head. Not quite the length or bal- ance of 1.
	3rd: Jacka-Slater's Ch. Cloverwood Duchess May
Vintage Bitch	1st: Bell's Kirkhalin Mystic Prudence from Reidswire Elderly pepper matron, sound moving, in lovely coat. Correct outline on the move. Happy and enjoying her time in the ring.
	2nd: Fry's Inzievar Gold Thread Mustard bitch, with correct balance and outline. A little heavy through the front, showing her age on the move.
