Paignton & District Fanciers Association

Westpoint, Clyst St. Mary, 3rd August 2019. Judge: Mrs J Miller.

After judging Labrador Retrievers, I now had the honour of judging two Terrier breeds and I do so thank both breed exhibitors for being so patient. They came to collect me at Junior bitch in Labradors so you did have a long wait but I did try not to keep you all waiting too long. I hope you had been told and understood. It was so nice to go over so many dogs and bitches within the two breeds, with the quality that was evident in both. I was delighted to see my BOB Scottish Terrier go on to win the Terrier Group. Fantastic thank you to my stewards, Sylvia Hurst and Donald Gouvied.

Puppy Dog/Bitch 1st: McGuinness's Diamondandie Black Diamond
For an 8 months puppy bitch she presented herself well with lots of confidence and stood well on the ground showing off her well developed weaselly body. Well built and balanced fairly large strongly made head with more to come, silky white topknot on her slightly domed skull, large dark eyes set well apart with a cheeky expression, well hung ears correctly set with nice tips coming. Good length to a well muscled neck, well laid shoulders with good front angles to her short well boned legs and round feet. Body was long with well rounded sprung ribs, topline with correct curves to a drop to thickly rooted shortish tail well carried out. Very nicely presented double jacket with soft under coat and a harsher salt and pepper outer. Correctly turned stifles on legs well boned and a little longer than the forequarters, let down short hocks. Very easy sound mover for her age with rear drive and a good reach at front.

Junior Dog/Bitch 1st: McGuinness's Diamondandie Blue Sapphire
Litter sister to my Puppy class winner and not as well put together and taller on the leg, but has the most charming character and very happy sound mover with very strong rear drive and a nice forward reach. Very pretty head fairly large and strong with lovely silky white topknot on her slightly domed skull, nice narrowing down towards her well set apart large eye with a dark bright look. Well hung ears with good tips. Nice muzzle and spongy nose. Well developed neck to laid back shoulders into a long body, the backline needing to sort itself out as she develops. Good hindquarters with rear well boned legs well set and carried happy tail. Conditioned and presented trimmed mustard coat with nice leg furnishings.

Postgraduate Dog/Bitch 1st: Allenby's Wilmit Mildred Potter for Diddimont
Very attractive 20 months old bitch and looked very smart on the stance being of nice size and correct shape in length. Rounded skull in a slightly smaller but nicely shaped head, white silky topknot of nice shape, well hung thin leathers with nice furnished tips. Very dark eyes could be larger, set with enough gap apart. Well shaped tapering to muzzle with strength. Muscular neck to well laid back shoulders slight curve behind into her long flexible body with rise over loin and slight fall to well set and carried tail. Ribs well sprung back into her loin, has substance and depth. Very attractive mustard coat with nice presentation and texture. Correctly angled front and rear with short well bone legs and round feet well furnished and coloured. Moved out with powerful rear drive and good forward reach with a happy tail.

Open Dog/Bitch 1st: Deacon & Hill's Ch./Am GCh. Pennywise On The Road Again
Very impressive male on the stance and so well handled by his owner/handler. As well as being good on the stance he was also very nice to go over having a strongly made large head with lovely rounded skull covered in a white silky topknot, those big dark open eyes set well apart with bright twinkle look to his eye, well set and hung ears with nice tassel. Correct powerful neck set into well laid shoulders into his long flexible body with correct topline to slight slope to his tail well set and carried. A body with enough depth and substance, ribs well sprung giving his rounded body with slight tuck to loin. Short well boned forelegs with round well padded feet, slightly longer well boned hindlegs with good return of stifle, set well apart. Very impressive Mustard coloured coat with good double feel, with a linty undercoat and harsher top jacket. Legs and sides well furnished with lighter hair. Very impressive on the move with rear drive and forward reach both free and sound. BD, BOB.
